Vineet Bhatia is a very well-known chef, restaurateur, and author. He has the distinction of being the first Indian chef to be rewarded a Michelin star.

He started his life in Mumbai and wanted to be a pilot. Once grown up, he passed the National Defence Exam but failed the physical test. Since his dreams to become a pilot were unsuccessful, he turned to another passion of his: cooking. He went to a catering college and also got an economics degree as a backup. He started his journey as a trainee at the Oberoi School of Hotel Management, New Delhi and eventually become the chef de cuisine at Oberoi's Kandahar restaurant in Mumbai.

He moved to London in 1993 to work at the Star of India in South Kensington and introduced his clients to more authentic Indian food. The Evening Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler wrote “Bhatia has lifted the cooking into a new league; providing convincing proof that Indian food is capable of evolving.”

In 1999, he opened Zaika and he became the first Indian chef to be awarded a Michelin star in 2001. He opened Rasoi in 2004 and was given a second Michelin star in 2006. In Geneva, Switzerland, Rasoi by Vineet opened its doors and of course, was awarded a Michelin star. This made Bhatia the only Indian chef to have 2 Michelin stars and a select few British chefs to have Michelin Stars in more than one country.

Bhatia has opened several more restaurants and has also written two books, Rasoi: New Indian Kitchen and My Sweet Kitchen. He has appeared as a judge on MasterChef India and The Final Table. He acted in Twist of Taste With Vineet Bhatia where he travels through India to learn about its culture and favours. Check out his YouTube channel for the latest videos.
